Getting Started:
In taking such a long trip one must pace himself. Not as in the Indy pace-car, at 100mph, but more in the Hawaiian pace--nap a lot. Gotta love this Hawaiian pace.Along the way it is our plan to be spoiled a bit, as in spoiled a lot. (e.g. Business Class from Chicago to Honolulu) But I've never held to the idea that a 350 sq ft. Hotel room, at the Hilton or anywhere else, fits in that category. Nice, sure, but "spoiled"-- nah. I guess it's the "Wisconsin as the best place to Vacation" syndrome of a boy who grew up in Illinois. A cabin as heaven, and a tent even better. Karen, of course, did give me certain rules for the trip, and one was "no tent" (well sort-of, and that you'll hear about when we get to Dubai next month), but I think she shares my love of space. So here it is:
We are on the side of Kauai that is considered "old Hawaii", and the cabin is actually a refurbished home used on the sugar plantations. They kept the old tubs, with clawed feet, and have a curtain around the tub as a shower conversion. Elegant simplicity in the construction, open air to fit the climate and a feel of that pace I fear it will be difficult to leave next week.
